NightGuard

Late-night defenses on a small scale.

About the Game
#

NightGuard is a compact defense game about protecting a home through a tense night shift. You manage limited space and timing while threats escalate, forcing quick choices about positioning and response. The jam focus was on building a simple premise with strong readability and steady pressure.

Core Loop
#

  • Patrol and monitor vulnerable areas.
  • Respond to threats before they overwhelm your defenses.
  • Reposition and recover between pressure spikes.
  • Survive the night by staying efficient and calm.

What I Built For This Jam
#

  • A complete browser prototype with a short, focused play session.
  • Escalating encounter flow to increase urgency over time.
  • Tight map scale that keeps action immediate.
  • Visual language tuned for quick state recognition.

Reflection
#

This build reinforced how much pacing matters in small games. If I expand it, I would add more tool variety and clearer mid-run risk/reward decisions.

Collaboration
#

I developed NightGuard with my daughter, Fae (now 14, and younger when we created this one). Like our first jam projects, she handled the title screen and cover art, shaping the tone and presentation.
